Terra Cotta Tuesday

Today is gorgeous and warm!  Not warm enough to walk out on the porch to warm my bare toes or read a book but, definitely warm enough to open the studio door to let the southern sun in. All of the 10 plants that find a home in terra cotta pots below are identified and perhaps talked about in some way.  I don't claim to be a botanist, lol.  I am just a girl standing in front of many, many plants!

Peperomia obtusifolia 'marble' or baby rubber tree
This plant is very popular among plant enthusiasts, easy to propagate and readily available even at big box stores.  The trick is to give them enough light or they will lose their marbling and also to only water when the leaves start to lose their thickness.  I took a lot of cutting last fall and gifted a few but, kept some, planting them in small vintage pottery for me ;)

Crassula ovata (small leaf variety)

Rhipsalis baccifera 'Mistletoe Cactus' purchased in 2018

Sansevieria laurentii and Moonshine purchased in 2017

Peperomia 'Rana Verde' purchased 2022 in the fall at Smith and Front in Bellefonte, Pa.

Phlebodium aureum 'Blue Star Fern' purchased 2018

Euphorbia trigona 'Rubra' purchased 2020 The grouping was super small, perhaps 3" tall. Last summer they got some scarring from the sun while on our front porch.  The last 2 years the sun did not seem to bother the spears in that way.

Aloe haworthia pentagona 'Alworthia Black Gem' divided this year from the main plant

Pelargonium odoratissimum (apple scented geranium) babies that seeded from the mother plant in 2021

Epiphyllum chrysocardium (Fern Leaf Cactus) divided from the mother plant 2021

What do you love about terra cotta clay pots? I do prefer to pot up certain ferns, succulents, Pelargoniums, Pilea, cacti, Philodendron and Sansevieria in terra cotta. It is an amazing material!
