Friday Flatlay in the Studio

a flatlay of metal art and leather craft tools

So many metal working tools can be used in leathercraft.  Last week I experimented using the hydraulic press to cut out shapes and make impressions in vegetable tanned leather. The results were a success in many ways.
  • a leather purse that my uncle Lawrence made in the 1970s
  • Tokonole to aid in burnishing leather edges
  • utility knife for cutting and trimming
  • pancake dies from Potter USA
  • bamboo tote with leather working tools including a strop for sharpening tools, metal ruler, stamps, curved edge stamp, stitch stamps, scribe, scratch awl, ++++
  • this past Christmas desiccated oranges, studded with cloves or pomanders
  • coffee cup handmade from Hughes Pottery, Tionesta, PA.
  • cobalt blue mister to moisten the leather, making it easier to work with
  • impression die of a tree cross section
  • beveler
  • leaf cut-outs
  • French Cobbler's Hammer
  • diamond awl which I also use as a slick for burnishing
  • self healing cutting matt
My next step is to pick up a small assortment of carving tools on our road trip tomorrow.  More to come!

enjoy, take care-

Stephanie
