Throwback Thursday- studio fun 2016-2023

Happy New Year!  Where did December go?  The last of the Christmas decorations came down today and it feels good. There was such a rush this year to clean, decorate, plan events for the Johnsonburg Community Trust, meetings and construction on the HEC. What a whirlwind of activity.  Now we all can take a break at least for a few weeks until the next event or grant, lol.

Progressions of thought, while working in this space, are of great interest to me. Blogging about that journey helps me understand where the starting point was and what that looked like.  I love this space so much! Having specific stations for piercing, soldering, metal forming, finishing, beading, displaying designs, sketching, journaling, filling orders, photographing and so much more +++++

The light is always so lovely.  Here we are in 2018.

The last grouping of photos are from 2023.

The above shot is using the ultra wide setting on the Pixel 8 pro.  How fun to see more of the stations at one time. L to R starting with the electric motor for Potter USA's hydraulic press at the garden door, then you can see the front door on the public side next, bead table/storage/design table, desk, rolling mills, kiln, rolling cart for symbol stamps/pliers/mandrels/sandpaper/gauges/etc., soldering station, tumblers, jeweler's bench, stump benches, farrier stump w/anvil center of studio and Foredom lathe coming back to the garden door.

Cross ventilation is wonderful when the doors can be flung open.  With the winter solstice now upon us, being on that side of the year makes the cold harsh months easier to endure.  This is a time of creativity while we watch/feel each day become longer and longer <3

Beautiful handmade cordage with earthy beads are new this year as well as these Mandala rings forged from copper.  Not all Those Who Wander cuffs also now available, displayed here. I love twisting and weaving fibers together to create this ancient heritage technique called cordage.

Being at my desk or work area, with inspirational objects, makes a very joyful space to work in and not drudgery.

Another new tool is an Easy Saw clamp.  This great tool will help my hands to not cramp when piercing.

October traditionally brings on the need to organize, audit the workflow and rethink the space. That usually involves ordering new equipment and tools.  I am always conscious, when making designs, on how to upcycle, recycle or repurpose materials. You will see more of this thought and practice in the coming months while I experiment with the tabletop furnace, rolling mill and draw bench.

enjoy, take care-

Stephnanie
