A Simple Pendant with the BIG made by hand Attitude

Being an artisan member of The Wilds Cooperative of Pennsylvania makes me, of course, USA made but, even tighter than that, #PAWildsmade.  Wild's creatives immerse themselves in the landscape producing such work for ie. photos captured, wood carved, metal formed or spirits distilled.  When enjoying artisan's work from this Wild's 'scene' you are part of the entire scope, the tangible and emotional experiences.

Over the years my jewelry and mixed media techniques have continually drawn inspiration from those rural traditions that were once everyday life for our ancestors.  This way of tactile life, being a part of the process of just living, has become a need in this age of technology for me and so many others to make with our hands utilitarian wares or more refined artistic work from beginning to end.

There is honesty in the process, a feeling of release while striking the metal over and over and then a certain amount of authority over the finished design that is validating.

While you are adventuring through the 12.5 county region known as The PA Wilds look for our The Wilds Cooperative of Pennsylvania membership popping up in galleries, as shops, breweries, distilleries, wineries, restaurants and historical sites just to name a few member types. You will find artist and artisan members among trading posts, host sites art shows and studios where they capture the landscape of the WILDS through #madebyhand work.

Organizing in the Studio with Wall Control

There is one wall that can have shelves or some type of system for organizing tools and materials.  After researching I did then settle upon a great little system from Wall Control in white.

Order in the studio or a place to put all the rolls of chain, wire, stringing, etc.
Spools of wire, stringing material or chain is a pain to stack for they are constantly falling as you look through for completing or creating each piece,  It is an amazing way to keep it all up and visible for ease of making anything on the bench or table. Part of the wrapping station is visible on the right including kraft wrapping paper, wooden antique tote w/tags, scissors, stamps/pads, little plastic bags for smalls and business cards can easily be carried to the check out counter.
Accessories from the company work great especially the shelves and shelf dividers seen on the left  separating sheet metal by gauge which is extremely helpful.
I am such an organizing geek.

Mornings in the Studio

Mornings in the studio are filled with hope for what the day will bring and glorious light from the breaking day.  Coffee from a rich dark blend, freshly ground with added cream and honey helps motivate also.  Mornings are the best.

What is on Your Jeweler's Bench Wednesday

Today hammering tubing into flat lengths, sawing separate tubing into rivets, dapping and then finally peening into place sliced tubing on the ends of the pieces.  All this to create components for bracelets and necklaces.  Debating on whether or not to put attribute words or deliciously placed symbols on some like I have been.

Staying Focused for my Birthday Month

For the month of February everyday there will be a post on the BLOG talking about new tools, techniques, jewelry listings, photography challenge posts, PA Wilds updates with ETSY team progress and so on. Whatever falls out of my head will be on the blog which could be very, very scary actually.

I did not take part in the November National Writing Month challenge and missed it basically.

I need to keep focused and posting everyday helps!

Getting Started on Studio Addition

This past weekend we staked out the space coming in at 20' D x 16' W. It will accommodate nicely the large antique sofa, carved chairs, display cases, cafe tables, door displays and church pew from the gallery.
On the left of the small studio is where it will be built, butting up against the brick patio, towards the screen porch making a courtyard type garden area.  This door becomes a window taking this door to the end of the new addition facing the screen porch.
These peach trees, lemon balm and ivy will be a wonderful garden component.  I will plant herbs and aromatics along the path to the front door also in the Spring.
A Spring openhouse will be planned, hoot, hoot!!!
