Fire, Fire!

Late last evening I was walking with a good friend, her eldest and my eldest and the dog around the neighborhood. It was a chilly beautifully clear evening. We stopped a few blocks from my home commenting on a wonderful smoke formation, shape identification;), before long it turned into a glowing red mass of orange, flickering color. We then realized it had to be a fire, not only a fire but practically in my back yard. We then bolted across two blocks and as I got closer it almost looked like it was, praise God that was not the case. Our neighbors, across the alley, have been burning their garbage for the last 2 years and they got quite a bit more careless than usual with a couch and shingle burning this time. This particular time they were also burning and not watching I guess. Let me clarify how close our houses are, EXTREMELY! We probably run 10' to 15' away generally from each other, at times 2'.
So, we all took off across 2 blocks to find their garage in flames, an exploding propane tank and their truck in front of the fire just about ready to go. Not only that, perhaps 20' away our other neighbor's garage has some oxygen acetylene tanks. That neighbor was taking his family and running to the In-Laws. It must have taken the fire trucks 15-20 min. to get there and they are right down the street, alittle longer and we would have been gone too. Noone got hurt as far as I know but, they did lose their garage and part of the garage next to them(another neighbor).
Today we will enjoy a wonderful Memorial Day with friends and Family minus the fire WE were going to burn today.
